Extensions from the TYPO3 library
In principle, we recommend using well-maintained extensions from TYPO3's official extension repository. The most important reason for this is thatwhen updates are made, the costs do not have to be borne solely by a client. Ideally, these costs are thus carried by the community behind TYPO3. In some exceptional cases, the extension developers have to bear the costs alone.
So if a suitable extension has been found, but you still have customization requests, we will primarily try to motivate the developers to make the changes to the extension accordingly. This way, the entire community and all users of this extension benefit.
For you as the client, this means you only incur those costs that arise, for example, from project-specific template customizations.
Here is an example:
You need a classic news system with list and detail views. There is already a good TYPO3 solution for this. The effort therefore does not go into programming such a solution, but only into installation, configuration, and, if necessary, custom template adjustments.
Be on the safe side with Verified Extensions
Verified Extensions are an official quality feature in the TYPO3 ecosystem. They are distinguished by the following features:
- Quality standards: Verified Extensions must meet strict technical and organizational requirements, such as compliance with TYPO3 coding standards, good documentation, and sufficient test coverage.
- Long-term maintenance: They are maintained regularly for at least 1.5 years and receive an additional 1.5 years of bug fixes and security updates. In total, maintenance of at least three years is guaranteed.
- Synchronization with TYPO3 releases: Verified Extensions are made available early for new TYPO3 versions and updated in coordination with the TYPO3 Core, which makes upgrades significantly easier.
- Transparency and support: There is a central point of contact for feature requests and bug reports. Extended support can be booked similarly to the TYPO3 ELTS program.
- Visibility and trust: Verified Extensions are given special prominence in the TER and offer agencies and companies planning certainty for their projects
And what if no TYPO3 extension fits?
However, there are also special cases in which highly customized business processes must be mapped. First of all, we examine your individual requirements in detail in advance. If the evaluation shows that none of the available extensions covers your requirements and that the desired result cannot be achieved even through an update, there is the option of a custom solution.
The process begins with technical planning aimed at creating a shared understanding of the actual requirements on both the client and service provider sides. Following the planning phase, we develop a custom extension. This is based on the standards and versions that are decisive for the project.
Such developments can of course also be created for older TYPO3 systems. However, one should expect higher effort and a shorter lifespan here, since these extensions will likely need to be adapted when the version changes. In such cases, we will be happy to advise you in advance and check whether your system generally needs to be updated in order to comply with current legal requirements such as the GDPR and BSI baseline protection.
