What may/can/must a cookie banner do?
Before the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, e-pixler New Media GmbH hosted its first event as part of thee-pixler academy. Kicking off the event series „AfterWork-Inspiration“ was an exciting evening on the topic ofCookie-Banner. Anyone who runs a website themselves has to deal with questions such as: From a legal perspective, why is a consent management tool needed at all for legally compliant cookie consent?
The reactions to the event were overwhelmingly positive and there was great demand for further dates. Therefore, as soon as events of this kind are possible again, there will be more dates. Until then, we want to pique everyone's interest with a brief look back.
An exciting evening with experts and an innovative consent management tool
At our first „AfterWork-Inspiration“, everything revolved around the topic of cookie banners. The aim was to shed light on all the legal changes and eliminate uncertainties. To do so, we brought an expert on board: Dr. Martin Schirmbacher, specialist lawyer for IT law at HÄRTING Rechtsanwälte, author of specialist books and expert in online marketing law.
Dr. Schirmbacher explained why websites have to display a cookie banner from a legal perspective in the first place and answered questions in an pleasantly understandable way. Many questions revolved around the specific design of the cookie banner. What is required, what is permitted, what can be omitted? The realization was clear and without alternative: anyone who does nothing must expect legal consequences.
e-pixler's data protection officer Jennifer Henz reminded the audience of the key facts about the GDPR in an engaging presentation. This allowed everyone among the website operators and entrepreneurs present to refresh or expand their knowledge of the General Data Protection Regulation. After all - everyone agreed - nobody wants to risk warnings or even fines.
In the final part of the evening - as it were the highlight of the event - e-pixler presented its self-developed cookie banner tool, more precisely the „Consent Management Tool for legally compliant cookie consent“.
The tool can be customized individually to the customer's wishes. But it can do much more. While standard tools embed a script intended to block all other scripts and their cookies, the e-pixler CMS removes cookies/scripts from the HTML code. The CMS only inserts the cookies/scripts once the user has given consent. – A difference that does not need to be commented on.
